The 2024 Landmine Monitor, published today, reminds us yet again of the devastating impact landmines and explosive remnants of war have on innocent people around the world.

With more than 5,700 casualties recorded last year globally, these deadly devices overwhelmingly killed or injured civilians – some 84% of casualties, of which 37% were children – destroying lives and livelihoods.

With conflict and instability on the rise around the world, MAG calls on States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC) to reaffirm their commitment to a landmine-free world, and on all states not yet party to join the Convention.

The Fifth Review Conference of the APMBC in Siem Reap, Cambodia, next week will be a critical opportunity to come together, address challenges, and work purposefully towards that goal.
