A statement from MAG (Mines Advisory Group) on the 26th anniversary of the Mine Ban Treaty.

"Today, December 3, marks the anniversary of the signing of the Mine Ban Treaty.

"Huge strides have been taken over the past 26 years – millions of landmines cleared and many lives saved. But these deadly devices continue to be used in a number of ongoing conflicts at an alarming rate, and millions of people remain trapped by those left behind decades ago.

"Ahead of next year's 5th Review Conference, it is as urgent as ever to promote and uphold this important life-saving Convention and accelerate global efforts to end the suffering caused by landmines everywhere – as states in 1997 promised to do when they signed it."
