Opportunity to lead mine clearance teams with critical fieldwork OR lead in capacity building of our locally recruited staff to safely implement our life saving mine clearance projects.

The starting salary for these positions is £71,830.20 GBP / approx. $89,970 USD per annum including all allowances.

About the Ukraine programme

Since the Russian invasion of 24th February 2022, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy bombardment, from artillery, missile, and air strikes, with extensive use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of  indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response. MAG responded to the crisis in 2022 and now employs around 250 staff in our Ukraine programme, in a range of operational and support/administrative activities with further scale-up planned during the remainder of 2024. The programme has a representation office in Kyiv, and operational offices in Mykolaiv (also covering accessible areas of Kherson) and now in Kharkiv. MAG has received certification for EORE, NTS, TS, Manual Demining and BAC and is currently operational in Mykolaiv. With the arrival of two MineWolf 240 demining machines in mid-April 2025, the programme is currently working towards gaining mechanical certification; with the intention of gaining EOD certification in 2025.

About the role(s)

We have multiple opportunities for Technical Field Managers (TFMs) to join our growing response in Ukraine, with roles both in our field operations and our standards and training team.

Our Technical Field Managers focussing on field operations lead from the front, are responsible for the day-to-day management of our technical teams and are involved in all aspects of MAG’s lifesaving work, including operational planning, reporting and representation of MAG to local communities and Government. As well as safely managing our clearance operations, capacity building and people management are core areas of this role.

Our Technical Field Managers working within our standards and training team are responsible for developing and delivering quality Training Management Packages in all areas of land release, operational management, and technical EOD competencies in compliance with our Global Technical Standards, Standard Operating Procedures, mission and mandate.

Both roles may involve working in remote areas, and sometimes in challenging contexts away from home comforts, but the life-saving impact of the work for the local communities is visible, real and rewarding.

About you

You must have a recognised and relevant EOD/demining qualification and have experience of managing efficient minefield clearance/EOD operations, ideally in an integrated clearance (manual and mechanical) context.

To work as the TFM in the field for MAG, you will be excellent at people management and have diplomacy and liaison skills to effectively build relationships with our national partners and authorities, with the ability to contribute technical knowledge and clearance targets in proposals and reports. It is also crucial that you are self-reliant and hold a high level of initiative as you will need to work independently and travel within the country.

For our TFM standards and training roles, you will have proven experience in managing training and QA operations, designing training material, and conducting formal and informal training for diverse groups of people. You must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills and examples of where you have used mentoring and coaching skills to conduct training programmes.

Finally, for both roles, you must be willing to take on the challenges of working in a complex context like Ukraine and working as part of a flexible and committed team, to save lives in communities that need it most. Fluent written and spoken English language skills are also essential.
