In Gaza, unexploded bombs pose daily threats to communities already enduring unimaginable challenges.
Around 90% of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents are displaced, and 60% of homes have been damaged.
For many, survival means navigating danger every day, with explosive items hidden among the rubble.
MAG and our partners, Save Youth Future Society, have deployed 20 risk education teams across Gaza to equip people currently living in Internally Displaced Peoples camps with the knowledge needed to stay safe around explosive hazards.
For Reda, the constant worry is for her children’s safety: “The awareness session taught me how to protect myself and my family from the remnants of war. Without this information, I might have let my children walk into danger.”
The ongoing conflict has left families in Gaza living in a state of uncertainty, with many unaware of the hidden dangers around them. For Wafaa, the greatest concern is the variety and unpredictability of the indiscriminate weapons: “We are exposed to many unknown forms of explosives, and these awareness sessions are important and lifesaving.”
The danger isn’t just immediate – it lingers long after the fighting has stopped. Saleh reflects: “We did not know that unexploded ordnance that has been around for a long time could explode at any time. This was important information that could save my life and the lives of my family.”
For communities in Gaza, the dangers of conflict extend far beyond today’s fighting. Explosive remnants threaten lives long after the bombs stop falling, creating an urgent need for awareness and safety measures to protect families trying to survive.
