MAG’s US-funded global operations have been suspended while the US State Department conducts a review of all American foreign assistance programmes.

The US State Department’s Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM/WRA), which finances much of MAG’s work, requested that MAG halt US-funded operations following the decision by the new US administration to pause all foreign development assistance funding for a 90-day period for review.

The suspension of foreign assistance applies to the vast majority of organisations delivering US-funded foreign assistance, with some rare exceptions for food relief and some aspects of military aid.

MAG’s senior leadership team is in contact with other donors, national authorities and partners in the countries where we work to ensure effective management of the suspension of operations.

MAG CEO Darren Cormack said: "We are assessing the implications of the US government’s review of foreign aid. Our work has enjoyed strong and bipartisan support from all US government administrations, including President Trump's first administration, because of its alignment with US national interests. We hope to work with the new Trump administration in the years ahead and we are confident that the case for our work is strong.”
