Our colleagues in Gaza are in a desperate situation and we are gravely concerned for their wellbeing.
They have had to suspend the majority of their critically important work because of the security situation and because their health is declining due to the shortage of food.
Most of the 40 colleagues we are working with in our partner organisation Save Youth Future Society (SYFS) are currently unable to deliver essential risk education, first aid training and psychological support services to people.
Today we reiterate our call for an immediate ceasefire and for access so that essential and life-saving humanitarian aid can enter Gaza.
Our colleagues in Gaza have been determined to do what they can to alleviate suffering despite insecurity, movement restrictions, and repeated displacement, adapting their methods to reach people wherever possible.
They have reached more than 300,000 people with essential information to help protect themselves and their families from the ongoing threat of unexploded bombs.
During the ceasefire period earlier this year, the focus was on reaching families returning to their homes, distributing printed safety messages, holding emergency briefings, and placing public warnings along major roads and access points.
As conflict resumed, teams have shifted to mobile delivery, providing sessions in neighbourhoods, informal learning centres, and at food and water distribution points. These sessions help civilians understand the risks, recognise explosive items, and know what actions to take to stay safe.
Our work would not be possible without the support of UMCOR, the Canadian government, and our supporters across the world.
But the situation has become so grave that the teams have been forced to suspend most of their work and are currently only operating close to the temporary shelters where they live. We stand with our colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
